Distance - 5 Miles
Geocaches - 3 and an ALC

Mrs M books a mini break - 140 miles from home - and then states that she wants to break up the journey by stopping for a walk. A coastal walk. We reach the sea at mile 130.
Still, Beaumaris is a wonderful place to start any walk. An Adventure Lab Cache has me looking beyond the obvious castle, to get information from one of the oldest domestic buildings in Wales, a jail and a courthouse.

Our route heads north - first along a path, then a promenade and finally on the stony shore itself. Slow going, tough on ankles. Views to die for across the Menai Strait to the Snowdonian mountains.
View from the Shoreline |
We leave the coast at Castell Aberlleiniog - which is only an 800m diversion from our shady path.To what will probably be my eternal regret, I do not suggest to my two walking partners that we make this diversion. Google confirms the folly of this action, even if I do know better than to keep ladies from ice cream.
Inland, through a hidden glen and across a golf course for more exceptional views before the return to town.
Snowdonia |
The girls go on hunt of ice cream, whilst I march purposely to the single Good Beer Guide Tick in town - the Castle Court.
I am after one of the shady outdoor benches |
Inside, a feel of a old school hotel bar but you can tell instantly that they take their beer seriously. Two hand pulls - a Thornbridge Jaipur turned down in the interest of experimentation for a fine Facer's This Spendid Ale. A noticeboard suggesting that the next two brews will include beers from Vocation.
The mini break is off to a fine start
