12/09/20 - The Ring of Bells, Taunton

Geocaching Lab Adventures provide us with two achievements, as we make our way from the Midlands down to the South West for our latest Staycaction.

Who needs Portugal when the sun is shining in Devon?

Achievement 1:  An historical tour of the Taunton provides us with the chance to learn about its past and identify the key locations of interest.  We find one of the oldest brick buildings in the UK (the Almshouses), determine that Costa Coffee is a Tudor building from the 1500s and there is a Cross in the churchyard that has some dice on it.  Only we (and other Geocachers) know what they add up to.

Even Son number 1 got into it from the 2nd stage.  This will teach a 22 year old to come on holidays with his parents.

On waking, we had little idea we would be vising one of the oldest brick buildings

Taunton
In Somerset, they like their towers high

Achievement 2:  We pass by a couple of Good Beer Guide pubs but my research has set my heart on the Ring of Bells.  No prizes for guessing how it got its name.   I knew that it was dog friendly, had a beer garden and did decent food.

The Otter Amber was a fine re-introduction to the South West.

Is there a better named pub?
