16/08/21 - The Pubs of Stow-on-the-Wold

Walking the Donnington Way, I find myself spending the night in Stow-on-the-Wold.

The town offers a different dynamic, once the majority of the tourists have gone home.  Only hard-core, thirsty ramblers remain to discover the pubs.

The majority are contained around a lovely market square.  With all offering a different angle of the same view.  None are troubling the Good Beer Guide, yet there were one or two surprises to the Donnington Ales Queens Head blogged at the end of the walk.

The Porch House, Digbeth Street, Camden Hells Lager

The Porch House at Stow
(Another) Oldest Pub In England

Possibly the most interesting of the night and another claimant to the "Oldest Pub in England" title.  I can visualise a tick list being developed, having been a regular in St Albans Ye Olde Fighting Cocks and visited Nottingham's Trip to Jerusalem.

They do provide evidence to support the claim.

The witch mark on the fireplace does not make a great photo, but should you be interested, a google and a visit to Flickr will show you whats on offer.  My concentration was focused on getting my Camden Hells back out into the sunshine without banging my head.

Little to differentiate the remainder of the perfectly solid pubs available.  A photo mini blog;
