01/05/21 - Saltburn-By-The-Sea for Landlord at the Ship Inn

Distance - 4.25 Miles

Geocaches - 2

We all have different reasons for a first visit to Saltburn-By-The-Sea.

Son #1 wants to visit the Seaview restaurant, after watching Fred Sirieix extol the virtues of their crab sandwiches.

Mrs M thinks it will be a fine place to allow Guide Dog in Training Abi to have a beach riot before she leaves us for Big School.

I know its the birthplace of Tony Mowbray - a manager that produced some of the most attacking football witnessed at the Baggies since Big Ron was exposed as a racist.

Bank Holiday weekend, so we are there early. There must be a German word for the smug feeling you get when returning to your car and knowing all those cars circling will do anything for your space. Then you tell them you are just retrieving your extra big coat because its 7 degrees when the sun goes in.

The walk is easy - a short cliff top ramble southbound to Warsett hill and a return inland amongst the cows.

Post Walk, the ramshackle Ship Inn has a large beer garden.  11:32am is not too early when you are on holiday. I'm unsure whether it was my first cask Timothy Taylor of 2021 or the fact it was the first Landlord shared with Son #1 but it brought a tear to my eye.

And the only surprise of the menu - The Soup of the Day wasn't Parmo.

Son #1 should have gone cheese.  The Seaview was Covid closed.
